Overview
As far back as 1963 the “DYNABOLT” was being manufactured and marketed by RAMSET worldwide. It was a revolutionary design that incorporated
all components to give a complete anchor for the many applications requiring materials to be fastened to concrete, brick and other masonry materials.
It was in fact a revolutionary new DYNAMIC BOLTING FASTENER, hence the brand name "DYNABOLT" which is a registered trade mark of RAMSET
FASTENERS.
‘DYNABOLT" now sets new standards for the performance of a high volume sleeve anchor.
Simply, the Dynabolt is a major step forward in expansion anchor technology and is the first “sleeve type” expansion anchor to offer the
combined advantages of a secure fixing, with a controlled and powerful “pull down” feature, which makes Dynabolt suitable for a wide variety of
applications.
- Cleaning the hole

Clamp Down Capacity |

Built into the DYNABOLT Plush sleeve design is a directional arrow indicator to ensure that the correct sleeve assembly for DYNABOLT. It is also a quality check that can be carried out on site. The direction of the arrow on the sleeve should always face downwards |
What is DYNABOLT?
A DYNABOLT PLUS is a complete masonry anchoring device. It is supplied as a complete assembly comprising:
- A TAPERED END, threaded bolt
- AN OUTER EXPANSION SLEEVE, depending on the length it may also be supplied with spacer sleeves
- A FLANGED hexagon nut or post screw of the countersunk, flat head, round head, flush head type
- Other special types Hook Bolt, Eye Bolt, etc
It is manufactured from MEDIUM STRENGTH STEEL
The tapered end of the bolt is cold formed on conventional cold heading machines, it is then cut off to length and the thread is rolled onto the top of the bolt.
The expansion sleeve is stamped from flat strip and must only be fitted onto the bolt one way, the three slotted end of the sleeve must rest down on the
tapered end of the bolt to enable expansion to take place when drawing the tapered end of the bolt upwards into the expansion sleeve. The flanged nut
types are standard components that are fitted above the expansion sleeve and are screwed together by finger pressure only.
Uses
Generally speaking, wherever powder actuated fastening is not acceptable, you should always investigate the reasons why. If it is reasons of prejudice
you may have a job of re-educating to do, as that person may have been guided by hearsay, or some previous experience based on bad application or poor
performance.
Applications can be changed. It could be that the correct fastening done by Powder Actuated Tools could be a much quicker and cheaper proposition on an in-place cost basis.
The high cost of labour is a most important factor when considering alternatives to a P.A.T. Fastening.
In the main, DYNABOLT anchors are used where any or all of the following factors are considered important:
- Higher capacity than P.A. Fasteners.
- A removable fixture.
- Neatness of fastening every time.
- Through fastening giving accurate fixing every time.
- Because the base material is too hard or brittle for P.A.T.(i.e. granite, rock, bluestone, solid or wire-cut bricks, etc.)
Installation
It is essential that you should learn the knack of how to install DYNABOLT ANCHORS correctly, practical experience is the best teacher.
The DYNABOLT does not rely on the bottom of the hole to achieve expansion. During the tightening up process the tapered end of the bolt is drawn
upwards into the expansion sleeve thus forcing the bottom of the sleeve outward giving a positive 360 degree expansion against the side of the drilled hole.
The more you tighten the nut down on the top of the DYNABOLT the more you will draw the tapered end of the bolt up through the expansion sleeve.
By over tightening the nut the only effect you will have is to draw more thread up through the nut until the bolt snaps or the thread strips.
When torquing up (tightening) DYNABOLT, a good rule of thumb is to tighten the nut 3 to 4 full turns. Refer to the Ramset TECHNICAL MANUAL for correct torque information
DRILLING THE HOLE IN MASONRY
When drilling the hole into masonry you should always think of the total system concept that we have, when using Ramset. We supply the correct
drilling machine (DynaDrill Rotary Hammers) and we have the correct size tungsten/carbide tipped masonry drill bits. By promoting and using the total
fastening system you will ensure that our anchors will give optimum performance.
You should always drill the hole equal to or greater than the required embedment of the DYNABOLT.
Many applications call for drilling into base materials, a masonry drill will not remove all of the clippings and dust (commonly called swarf) from the
hole and unless you have completely cleaned out the hole, the DYNABOLT could come to rest on this swarf and prevent the anchor from pulling down neatly
onto the material to be fastened.
In most cases where product complaints have occurred one or the other installation steps have been ignored or preformed incorrectly (usually the setting under rotary hammer action).
